Cyclist and pedestrian emphasis

From "Comment on the City’s new Wayleaves Policy and By-law"

Go to the project

The new wayleave system should place emphasis on cyclists and pedestrian access and on roads. The traffic situation in Cape Town is currently out of control and without a deemphasis on vehicle traffic by the City, it will only get worse as the City grows. Things like safe access for pedestrians and cyclists with demarcated zones for these would be good. Also placing more emphasis on public transport whether it is my city or taxis must be incorporated. We are not going to get rid of taxis so why not incorporate safe stopping zones for them to avoid them stopping in the middle of busy traffic areas. Let’s look at city’s like Copenhagen and try to implement some of their ideas.
