From "Comment on the City’s draft Walking and Cycling Strategy"

Go to the project

I want emphasize the need to integrate the walking/cycling strategy with public transport: this means allowing bikes on train and myciti buses; making trains available on weekends, encouraging commuters to park and ride from stations. It could also include rental bicycles at the station- and all over CT(digitally managed bikes). The middle classes need to be educated to use trains.

There is a need to discourage car users eg a tax in the CBD for bringing a car, taxing single occupant cars.

To encourage walking/cycling: Cycle paths require barriers so they are safe from cars. Walking routes require cool reflective surfaces (not black), trees or shade shelters with benches, bins, waterpoints.

Cycling trailers - for children, groceries, tools, pets - need to be made available on the market. Currently common in cycling countries but not seen in SA.
