Early-Warning Sensors for Sewer Overflows and pothole Prevention Pilot

Problem: In cape town, 60% of repeat potholes start as underground sewer leaks that wash away road base. Sewer blockages also cause overflow into streets and the ocean after rain, creating health and pollution risks. Current reporting relies on residents calling 0860 103 089, so blockages are only found after damaged happens. Proposed Solution Pilot low-cost loT sensors in 50 manholes in 1 high-complaint suburb for 6 month. 1.Sewer Sensors R200 LoRaWAN devices measure water level+H@S gas. Alert City when levels rise, so crew clear blockage before Overflow. 2.Link to Potholes When sensor detect chronic leaks, flag the road above for inspection. Fix pipe + Road onces, not 3 times a year. Impact for City of Hope Cost I think one repeat potholes cost R3500 and Preventing 10 repeats save 35 000per Street. Pilot suggestion: Test in Philippi\Langa where potholes and sewer complaints overlap. Scale if 30%+ fewer emergency callouts
