Sterilisation is too early and cause health issues in the older animal if done to early.

From "Comment on the Draft Animal Keeping By-Law"

Go to the project

Early sterilisation of animals as a blanket 6 months is not in line with the long term health of all animals when they are older. Proper research has not been done. Some animals such as large breed dogs need their natural sex hormones to signal when long bones should stop growing. Removing hormones too early can delay growth plate closure and increase the risk of joint disorders like hip dysplasia or ligament tears. This clearly is an awful bylaw as it will affect the health of these animals. Secondly one can see this is just aver reach and not actually for the benefit of animal well fair by the city to have to pay to keep animals. Seriously!
