Please consider a WhatsApp contact number for the City of Cape Town / Metro Police for emergency reporting. Currently the available contact details are: • Emergencies: 107 (landline) or 021 480 7700 (mobile) A WhatsApp option would be extremely helpful for residents who are unable to make phone calls, need to share locations or photos, or require discreet communication. *People heavily use WhatsApp and lots of people don't have landlines any longer or have airtime on their mobile phones. They are therefore not able to contact the available numbers.

Some of us also don't use WhatsApp, so Telegram would also be great to have.

    @Danie van der Merwe I would tend to differ as I believe WhatsApp was around first i.e. before Telegtam, and has a far higher userbase. I don't use Facebook yet thousands swear by it, Not only that but even my security service provider has tried the Telegram route, with many indicating WhatsApp would be better as it is one of the main apps people keep open on teir phones as friends and family use it.

    @Hylton Conacher for me, it was not about who was out first. I used to use WhatsApp until end of 2019 when they changed their T&C's to allow sharing of all metadata with upstream partners (after Facebook bought it out). I deleted it after not accepting the new T&Cs. But Telegram does allow way larger groups to be better managed, which is why many communities actually use it instead of WhatsApp for community groups. So my issue against WhatsApp is really a principal one. A US app selling data to data brokers is not something I support. My community uses Telegram anyway.
