Connie Hutton4 months ago I believe the budget needs to be revisited in light of the judgment today that the fixed tariffs were both invalid and unlawful.While the budget overall made sense operationally it was based on insane increases on municipal bills over the past 2 years, with smoke and mirrors being used on calculators that did not cater for the proposed change in valuation. It also fails to recognize that when services are FREE, they are not valued. Rethink that.

Connie Hutton9 months ago While a strategy is all well and good, the City requires strong support from not only employers who need to support such a strategy, allowing for flexible hours, remote working (at home or at shared workplace venues), but also strong support from the Western Cape government, who is still willing to allow people to travel up to 50km in a metro environment for education. While it is understandable that longer distances are required in rural areas to access schools, this should be limited in metropolitan areas, and like with junior schools, high schools should be focused on limited feeder areas, with parents able to get their children into the NEAREST facility. With parents in my suburb unable to get their children into the local high school, they are getting into the car twice a day to take and fetch, while working remotely in between. Schools should not be permitted on anything smaller than a grade 3 road, and all new schools should have drive through drop off zones to ensure roads keep flowing smoothly. As far as possible specialized schools should have mini bus or bus transport, and the city should assist with subsidization on this if required.In terms of employer buy-in, many employers have reverted to 5 days in the office, in no less than the CBD, and there appears to be very little being done by the City to discourage putting people back in traffic.
