City reminds residents to comment on Draft Road Safety Strategy
The Draft Road Safety Strategy is currently open for public comment, following the start of the participation process earlier this month.
The City of Cape Town is reminding residents and stakeholders to review the draft and share their input on how road safety can be improved across the Cape Town. The strategy sets out how the City plans to make travel safer for everyone; whether walking, cycling, using public transport, or driving.
The previous Road Safety Strategy covered the period up to 2018 and has not been formally reviewed since. Since then, Cape Town has experienced increased traffic, population growth, and new transport challenges. The updated strategy aims to respond to these changes and guide a more coordinated approach to road safety.
The draft Road Safety Strategy has been informed by public input. In 2023, the City ran a Call for Ideas campaign, which received over 3,000 comments from residents. Key concerns included pedestrian safety, reckless driving, and public transport issues. These insights were considered in the development of the draft.
The public participation process closes on 8 June 2026. The public is encouraged to take part and comment on the draft strategy before the closing date.
